EA confirmed Madden 18 in a call with investors that includes new details about the games and a big piece of news about the Madden 18 graphics. EA still isn’t talking publicly about the Madden 18 cover athlete and gameplay, but they are inviting gamers to play Madden 18 early.

After we uncovered a job listing for EA Sports connecting Madden 18 to Frostbite EA formally announced the conversion of Madden NFL 18 to Frostbite.

Madden 18 Release Date

The Madden 18 release date is in August. There is no official announcement yet, but for the last 10 years, the new Madden game arrived in August.

In addition to hitting store shelves right before the start of the NFL season, the game needs to arrive ahead of NHL 18 and FIFA 18 in a very crowded release calendar.

The odds are very good that the Madden 18 release date is August 22nd or possibly August 29th. We do expect another early release for some users. EA Access on the Xbox One offers the ability to play new EA games five days early, which means many gamers can play on August 17th or August 24th if all holds the same as last year.

Madden 18 Gameplay & Screenshots

You can expect to get your first glimpse at an official Madden 18 video in late April or early May. EA typically offers a teaser with a little bit of information about the game.

It’s very likely that this will be cinematic and not show actual Madden 18 gameplay. The short video will likely use the in-game engine, but it will be closer to what you see in replays than it is the final gameplay.

A better opportunity for Madden 18 gameplay videos and screenshots will come at EA Play in June. This is an event by EA that runs around E3 where gamers can come to experience the new EA games.

Madden 18 Demo & Early Play

You shouldn’t count on a Madden 18 demo that you can play on your own PS4 or Xbox One, but if you go to EA Play you will be able to play Madden 18 early.

Last year gamers were able to play Madden and FIFA early as well as other games and EA confirmed that this is happening again in 2017. You may not be able to record the gameplay at all, but you are be able to experience part of the game.

EA Play 2017 is June 10-12 at The Hollywood Palladium and there will be live streams on EA. You can sign up for tickets to EA Play 2017 at 9 AM Pacific on April 20th.

Madden 18 Features

In addition to our hope for a new mode that draws us into the game more, we are hoping for a variety of new Madden 18 features. Evey year EA fine tunes a number of items and upgrades whole sections of gameplay completely. We’ve seen Madden Ultimate Team become easier to use and more player focused, but there is still room for upgrades to the game.

We are hopeful that EA will fine tune the officiating and finally allow players to challenge botched calls. most of the time the Challenge option is not available in Madden 17. In the video above the game straight up misses a fumble and in other instances completely miss the call on a recovered fumble.

On top of fixing those issues, there is an opportunity for major Madden 18 features upgrades this year. In Madden Ultimate Team we’d love to see an easier way to manage the sets and see where the best place to put earned items is. An iPad app or online mode of managing would be amazing.

Other small changes that we would love to see include more weather related ball handling when passing and catching, better clock management by the computer controlled teams and refinements to the passing game.
